Privacy policy

Overview

Namegrid.co is designed to be privacy-friendly. The Service does not require user accounts, does not use cookies, and does not track you across the web. This policy explains what data is collected and how it is used.

1. Data we collect

Search prompts

When you use the domain search feature (via the website or API), you provide a text prompt describing your product or idea. This prompt is sent to our server to generate domain name suggestions.

Domain queries

The domain names generated or submitted for availability checking are queried against public DNS, RDAP, and WHOIS services.

Server-side analytics

For each search request, we log the following to private server-side log files:

  • A random request identifier (not linked to you)
  • The AI model used and token counts
  • Number of domains checked and their availability results (aggregate counts by TLD, not individual domains)
  • Estimated inference cost
  • Request duration and whether the request timed out
  • Timestamp of the request

These logs do not contain your search prompt, IP address, or any personally identifiable information.

2. Third-party services

OpenAI

Your search prompt is sent to OpenAI’s API to generate domain name suggestions and rank available domains. OpenAI processes this data under their own privacy policy. As of this writing, OpenAI does not use API inputs to train their models.

Public registries

Domain availability checks query public DNS servers, RDAP endpoints (via IANA), and WHOIS servers operated by domain registries. These are public services and the queries contain only the domain name being checked.

3. Data we do not collect

  • We do not collect your name, email, or any personal information.
  • We do not use cookies or browser-based tracking.
  • We do not use analytics services like Google Analytics.
  • We do not collect or store IP addresses in our application logs.
  • We do not sell any data to third parties.

4. Cookies

Namegrid.co does not set or read any cookies. The Service does not use session cookies, authentication cookies, advertising cookies, or any other type of cookie or browser-local storage mechanism. No cookie consent banner is needed because there are no cookies to consent to.

If this changes in the future, this policy will be updated and appropriate consent mechanisms will be added before any cookies are introduced.

5. Data retention

Server-side analytics logs are retained for operational purposes (cost tracking and performance monitoring) and are periodically deleted. Since we do not collect personal information, there is no personal data to retain or delete.

6. Children’s privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
