Overview
This policy outlines what constitutes acceptable use of Namegrid.co, including the website and API. It applies to all users. Violating this policy may result in temporary or permanent suspension of access.
1. Fair usage
Namegrid.co is a shared resource. To keep the Service available for everyone:
- Do not send automated requests at a rate that degrades the Service for other users. A reasonable limit is no more than 5 concurrent requests and no more than 60 requests per hour per IP address.
- Do not use the API to bulk-scrape domain availability data for purposes unrelated to finding a domain for a legitimate project or business.
- Do not attempt to bypass rate limits through IP rotation, distributed requests, or other evasion techniques.
2. Prohibited activities
You may not use the Service to:
- Domain squatting or front-running — Programmatically register domains identified through the Service with the intent to resell them rather than use them for a legitimate project.
- Trademark infringement — Intentionally generate or check domains that infringe on existing trademarks for the purpose of impersonation, phishing, or brand abuse.
- Phishing or fraud — Identify or register domains intended for phishing, social engineering, or any form of fraud.
- Malware distribution — Use domains discovered through the Service to host or distribute malicious software.
- Service disruption — Attempt to overload, crash, or exploit vulnerabilities in the Service, its infrastructure, or the third-party services it depends on (DNS, RDAP, WHOIS, OpenAI).
- Reselling the Service — Wrap, white-label, or resell the Namegrid.co API or its output as your own product without written permission.
3. API-specific rules
- Include a descriptive
User-Agent header in API requests so we can distinguish legitimate integrations from abuse. - Cache results on your side when possible. Domain availability data is already cached for 10 minutes server-side; polling the same domains more frequently than that wastes resources for both of us.
- Do not use the API to build a competing domain name generation service without written permission.
4. Prompt content
Prompts submitted to the domain search feature are processed by a third-party AI model. Do not submit prompts that:
- Contain illegal content or attempt to generate names for illegal purposes.
- Attempt to manipulate the AI model into producing harmful, discriminatory, or offensive output.
- Include sensitive personal information (yours or anyone else’s). The Service is not designed to handle personal data.
5. Enforcement
If we identify a pattern of use that violates this policy, we may:
- Rate-limit or block the offending IP address or API client.
- Temporarily or permanently suspend access to the Service.
- Report illegal activity to the appropriate authorities.
We will make reasonable efforts to notify affected users before taking action, except where immediate action is required to protect the Service or its users.
6. Reporting abuse
If you believe someone is misusing the Service, please contact us at [email protected].
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
